High‑Impact SPARK Project Visit to the University of Birmingham

Just landed back in Egypt, Prof. Ahmed Elkaseer concluded an energising three‑day visit to the University of Birmingham as part of the SPARK Project, a strategic initiative between The British University in Egypt – Faculty of Engineering and the University of Birmingham, generously funded by the British Council.

During his visit, Prof. Elkaseer:

  • Reconnected with his former PhD supervisor, Prof. Duc Pham OBE, FREng, FLSW, FSME, BE, PhD, DEng, CEng, FIET, FIMechE, whose unwavering support continues to inspire his academic journey.
  • Enjoyed an in-depth tour of Prof. Khamis Essa’s advanced manufacturing laboratories (SPARK UK PI), where he helped outline several joint applications and potential research collaborations among UoB, BUE, and the PIA group at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
  • Held a highly productive meeting with Prof. Moataz Attallah and his outstanding team at the Advanced Materials & Processing Lab, exploring ongoing research and laying the groundwork for further collaboration between his team at BUE and the University of Birmingham.
  • Engaged in insightful discussions with Dr. Ramy Abdallah on expanding cooperation in advanced manufacturing technologies.

Prof. Elkaseer extends his sincere thanks to everyone at UoB for their generous hospitality and to the British Council for supporting this impactful initiative. The visit was marked by rich scientific exchange, knowledge sharing, and actionable plans to strengthen collaborative ties across institutions in Egypt and the UK.
